Next, consider how big your dream home needs to be.  Factor in square footage, the size of your home should be tailored to fit your lifestyle and allow for all the members of your family to be comfortable.

While price will almost always play a role in your decision making, you should still find a home that is a good size for you and your family.  Having the right size home also includes how many bedrooms you are looking for, the number of bathrooms you need.

What are you looking for?

Bedrooms 

• How many bedrooms will be ideal for you?
• What is the minimum number of bedrooms you will consider?
• Do you expect or want to grow your family?
• Do you anticipate the possibility of taking in an aging parent or another family member in the near future?
• Do you entertain many out of town guests?  Is it important to have a bedroom for guests?

Bathrooms 

• How many bathrooms can your family comfortably share?
• Is a guest bathroom needed?
• Can your family survive with one full bath and a half-bath?
• Does anyone in your home have a medical condition that requires them to use the bathroom extensively?

Layout

• Are you looking for an open floor plan?
• Do you regularly host parties and need a large place to host?
• Do you want a dining room?
• Do you prefer an open great room?

Other

• How important is personal space?  Do you need a man cave or a woman cave?
• How much storage space do you need?
• Do you need a home office?
• How much closet space do you need?
• If you live in an area where basements are present, would you prefer if it is already finished or do you want it left as-is?
